Bread fry

Ingredients:

- 8 to 10 slices of bread (White preferably, since it tastes better or wholemeal)

- 1 large onion, finely chopped

- 2 tomatoes, diced

- 2 tablespoons oil

- 1 tablespoon butter

- 2 tablespoons ketchup

- Salt to taste

- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)

- A handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped

- Optional: Mustard seeds, curry leaves for tempering

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Servings: 2-3

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Bread:

   - Toast the white bread slices in butter until they are golden brown.

   - Remove the crusts and cut the bread into small squares. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Tempering:

   - In a pan, heat oil over medium heat.

   - Add mustard seeds and let them crackle.

   - Add curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.

3. Cooking the Vegetables:

   - Add finely chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they turn translucent.

   - Stir in diced tomatoes and cook until they soften and release their juices.

   - Season with salt, turmeric powder, and chili powder. Mix well and let it cook for a couple of minutes.

4. Adding Ketchup and Bread:

   - Add ketchup to the mixture and stir until everything is well combined.

   - Carefully add the bread squares to the pan and gently mix to coat them with the tomato mixture.

5. Final Steps:

   - Cover the pan with a lid and let the bread fry on low heat for 5-8 minutes. This allows the flavors to blend and the bread to absorb the delicious sauce.

   - Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking. If it looks too dry, you can sprinkle a little water.

6. Garnish and Serve:

   - Once the bread is cooked and has absorbed the flavors, turn off the heat.

   - Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

   - Serve hot as a delicious snack or light meal.

Tip:

Feel free to customize this recipe by using different spices and veggies. The tangy and spicy flavors make it an exciting alternative to regular toast, and it's sure to be enjoyed by everyone in the family!
